MEDFORD, OR – January 15, 2010 – The Forest Service announced today that fees at 12 campgrounds, 6 recreation rental cabins and 4 recreation river bars on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest have increased for 2010.

"The new fee structure will help the Forest Service maintain and improve campgrounds, rental cabins and other recreation sites that have been aging" said Marc Staley, Acting Recreation/Engineering/Lands Staff Officer. "This action keeps the Forest fees more in line with prices at other state, federal and commercial sites with similar attributes," said Staley.

The recreation fees, currently ranging from $5 - $10 per night per site, will increase to $8 - $15 per night per site, and cabin rentals will increase to $40 - $60 per night per site at the locations listed below. Increased fees for additional vehicles will also be added at some of the sites.

Many of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest developed recreation sites were built 30-50 years ago and have received little significant investment in basic maintenance or improvements.

"The Forest Service's goal with this new fee structure is to create a sustainable recreation program that meets the needs and expectations of the Forest visitors", said Staley. "Ninety-five percent of the funds collected at recreation fee sites remain on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest to help fund needed improvements," he said.

The updated fee structure is one of several outcomes from the Recreation Facility Analysis (RFA) process the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest completed in 2008 where the agency evaluated the future management of 208 developed recreation sites, including campgrounds, trailheads, and rental cabins.

Through this analysis process, and with public input, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest developed a "program of work" outlining the future management of these sites over the next five years. This fee proposal was reviewed by the Recreation Resource Advisory Committee in 2008, and was included as part of their recommendation to the Regional Forester.

Fees were established based on the facilities, services and amenities provided in comparison to other similar recreation sites in the market area.

More information on the updated fee structure and recreation sites can be obtained at any of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest District Offices or on the Forest web site at: www.fs.fed.us/r6/rogue-siskiyou.
