Northern portion of Calico Trail temporarily closed to the public

Release Date: Jun 14, 2019

Forest officials have re-issued a trail closure along the northern four miles of the Calico Trail (#208) for a fourth year. The closed section begins at the point where it intersects with FSR 471 (Eagle Peak road). “This action is necessary to prevent continued damage to the trail and the creation of new routes around damaged trail sections in adjacent delicate meadows,” said Tom Rice, Dolores Ranger District Recreation Staff Officer.

The northern portion of the trail will be temporarily closed to all visitors, including pedestrian, horse, mountain bike and motorcycle use. During this time, the District will be completing trail maintenance projects in an effort to reopen the trail.

Winter motorized and non-motorized over snow recreation, including snowmobile use, will not be affected by the closure.  Other exemptions will include federal, state, and local officers, or members of organized fire and rescue operations in the performance of official duties; and Forest Service maintenance crews.
