Pine River Closure Order Lifted

Release Date: Oct 3, 2019

BAYFIELD, Colo, October 2, 2019 – The Pine River Trail #523 closure order on the Columbine Ranger District ended on September 30. The closure went into effect on July 15 as a safety precaution to Forest visitors recreating in the Weminuche Wilderness.

The trail was closed because of safety hazards caused by a collapsed trail corridor and cut-back produced by spring flooding and high water events due to an accelerated melting of the unusually deep winter snow pack. The temporary trail closure was necessary to provide public safety, and for the safety of work crews as they completed repairs to the damaged section of trail.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we worked to restore this trail so that people could have a safe and enjoyable wilderness experience,” said Columbine Recreation Staff Officer Jed Botsford.
