Many forest roads may still be closed this weekend
Release Date: May 19, 2015
Many of the high elevation roads on the Rio Grande National Forest may still be closed this Memorial Weekend due to this month’s cool temperatures and abundant rain and snow. Access to all of the large reservoirs on the forest will be open, but roads will still be closed to some of the smaller high elevation lakes and reservoirs.
“Although the much needed moisture we have received in May has reduced access to some parts of the forest, there are still plenty of areas to camp, fish, hike and ride,” said Rio Grande National Forest spokesman Mike Blakeman.
All of the national forest’s developed campgrounds will be open Memorial Weekend with the exception of Hansen’s Mill, River Hill, and Trujillo Meadows.
