SANTA FE, NM – June 14, 2017 – For Immediate Release.  The Medio Fire on the Española Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest was contained on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m., and incident command declared it controlled at 9:47 a.m. today, which means there are no active flames and fireline is secure and expected to hold.

Initially reported on Saturday, June 10, the Medio Fire was probably lightning-caused, but that is unconfirmed and no investigation is pending.  Assisted by multiple bucket drops from a helicopter, ground crews successfully kept the Medio fire to under four acres.  Crews expect to complete mop-up operations today.

With the weather forecast calling for record highs and potential thunderstorms, forest visitors are asked to avoid the Medio Fire area. The fire occurred about 3 miles east of Camp Frank Rand Boy Scout Camp near Piñon and Cañon Chimayo, southwest of Santa Cruz Lake.

Fire updates are posted on the New Mexico Fire Information website at nmfireinfo.com and on @SantaFeNF and www.Facebook.com/SantaFeNF.
