Forest Plan Revision
Each national forest and grassland is governed by a land management plan. In accordance with the National Forest Management Act (NFMA), forest plans set desired conditions, standards, and guidelines for management, protection, and use of the Forest. We are revising the Shoshone National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan that was approved in 1986. We are using the provision of the 1982 planning rule to guide our process.
On September 24, 2010, we published a Notice of Intent in the Federal Register to revise the Shoshone National Forest Land Management Plan and to prepare an environmental impact statement. We have held numerous public meetings and have gathered input on plan revision topics from the public, American Indian Tribes and local government. A draft forest plan and draft environmental impact statement were published in July, 2012. Comments received regarding these documents were taken into consideration as the revised plan and final environmental impact statement were written. The revised Land Management Plan, Final Environmental Impact Statement and draft Record of Decision are available on this website for your review. The Notice of Availability of the Final Environmental Impact Statementin the Federal Register was published on January 17, 2014. The Denver Post Legal Notice of the beginning of the objection period was published on January 24, 2014
The revised Land Management Plan, Final Environmental Impact Statement and draft Record of Decision are now available on the plan revision webpage. CDs of the documents may be obtained from the Shoshone National Forest offices or by calling 307.527.6241. Hard copies are available for review at local libraries and at the Shoshone Forest offices.
Revised Forest Plan Objections
The objection process provides an opportunity for members of the public who have participated in public participation during the planning process to have any unresolved concerns receive a review by the Forest Service prior to a final decision being made by the responsible official.
