MT. SHASTA, Calif. - The Shasta-McCloud Management Unit (SMMU) of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest (NF) would like to invite anyone and everyone to our annual ‘Open House’ events. There will be two sessions. The first of these informative presentations will be at the McCloud Ranger Station in the conference room on March 2nd from 3-5:00 p.m. and the second at the Sisson Museum in Mt. Shasta on March 3rd from 5-7:00 p.m.

These ‘Open House’ sessions offer members of the public, business and land owners, and students a specialized forum to learn what the Shasta-Trinity NF, specifically the SMMU, does and will be doing in the near future. This is a great time to share information, ask questions, and meet resource staff and project leaders who are excited to share their knowledge of the various projects that we have accomplished to date or plan to accomplish in the coming year.

During the McCloud Ranger District session we will provide an update on the current status of Mud Creek and new facilities. Also on the agenda for McCloud will be updates on the Elk, Highway 89, and Pilgrim Plantation projects.

Those who attend the Mount Shasta District session will be given information on the status of the Parks/Eddy Watershed Restoration project, acquisition of land in the Little Castle Creek watershed, planned prescribed burns, winter recreation opportunities and status of this year’s snowpack.

The SMMU has been and is always receptive to public input and concerns; we live in the same communities and enjoy many of the same pastimes. This is a wonderful time to meet and greet the men and women who help manage your National Forest, and to learn and comment on what we do.  We hope to see you there!

For more information or if you have any questions or comments please contact Shasta and McCloud District Ranger Carolyn Napper at 530-926-9620 or call one of the District offices: Mount Shasta 926-4511 or McCloud 964-2184.

The mission of the Forest Service is to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the nation's forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. The agency manages 193 million acres of public land, provides assistance to state and private landowners, and maintains the largest forestry research organization in the world. Public lands the Forest Service manages contribute more than $13 billion to the economy each year through visitor spending alone. Those same lands provide 20 percent of the nation's clean water supply, a value estimated at $7.2 billion per year. The agency has either a direct or indirect role in stewardship of about 80 percent of the 850 million forested acres within the U.S., of which 100 million acres are urban forests where most Americans live.
