Current fire situation:
- A public meeting will be held at 4pm on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Hyampom Volunteer Fire Department
Continued heavy inversion moderated fire behavior and limited visibility again today. Crews held and mopped up lines around the Castle Fire and will be in place again tonight to monitor as the fire backs toward the river.
The Pattison Fire was again most active on the western side, and crews worked on indirect containment lines along Forest Road 4N15 and 3N05 between the western edge of the fire and Forest Road 5N60 to create indirect containment lines to stop the fire spread. Dozer lines have also been completed along the eastern and southeastern sides of the fire. These lines will be tied into Hayfork Creek on the west and Forest Road 3N26 on the east, while firefighters continue to scout for more direct containment opportunities. Engines are present at the structures around the Bar 717 Ranch to provide point protection should it become necessary.
NorCal Team 2 will transfer command of the South Complex to California Interagency IMT 1 as of 6am on Friday, August 21, 2015.
Fires by Acre:
- Castle: 14,600
- Pattison: 7,600

The mission of the Forest Service is to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the nation's forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. The agency manages 193 million acres of public land, provides assistance to state and private landowners, and maintains the largest forestry research organization in the world. Public lands the Forest Service manages contribute more than $13 billion to the economy each year through visitor spending alone. Those same lands provide 20 percent of the nation's clean water supply, a value estimated at $7.2 billion per year. The agency has either a direct or indirect role in stewardship of about 80 percent of the 850 million forested acres within the U.S., of which 100 million acres are urban forests where most Americans live.
