Community Meeting: A community meeting is scheduled at Del Loma RV Park today, Sunday, August 23 at 6 p.m.

Current Fire Situation: Due to hard work of firefighters the western flank is contained. Most of the firefighting efforts are focused on the southeastern portion of the fire. Working to hold the fire north of Highway 299 firefighters improved and constructed handline from the 2012 Flat Fire near Del Loma.

A predicted change in wind direction from the south, will push fire north towards Fawn Ridge and Trinity Mountain and east towards Brushy Mountain and Green Mountain areas. The inversion layer is expected to break up around 2 p.m.

Today crews will be constructing a contingency line along French Creek to Highway 299. Patrol and mop-up continues in the Del Loma and Prairie Creek areas as the fire backs down the hillside. Fire personnel will focus on structure protection near the Big Mountain and Brooks Ranch areas.

The mission of the Forest Service is to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the nation's forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. The agency manages 193 million acres of public land, provides assistance to state and private landowners, and maintains the largest forestry research organization in the world. Public lands the Forest Service manages contribute more than $13 billion to the economy each year through visitor spending alone. Those same lands provide 20 percent of the nation's clean water supply, a value estimated at $7.2 billion per year. The agency has either a direct or indirect role in stewardship of about 80 percent of the 850 million forested acres within the U.S., of which 100 million acres are urban forests where most Americans live.
