Current fire situation: Overnight the South Complex received a tenth of an inch of rain at lower elevations and up to a quarter inch at higher elevations. There has been no growth in the fire in the last 24 hours. Firefighters patrolled along the Lower South Fork Road near the residences, along the 301 Road, the Bar 717 Ranch and the fire’s northern perimeter. No spots were detected outside of containment lines.
Today crews will take advantage of the wet conditions to secure any remaining heat along the fire’s perimeter. Crews began repair of damage caused by fire suppression actions including approximately 80 miles of dozer and 9 miles of handline. Hose and pumps are being removed from areas where the fire is out and there is no longer a threat.
Community Meeting: California Interagency Incident Management Team 1 hosted a community meeting last at the Hyampom Fire Station that was attended by 30 people. The meeting was recorded and will be posted on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Facebook page (see web link above) for those that could not attend.
Weather and Safety: While cool and wet weather may help with the fire it will also make roadways more hazardous. The public is encouraged to use caution driving as rain may cause more logs and rocks to fall onto roadways and heavy firefighting traffic will remain in the area.
