New Yuba River District Ranger Named

New Yuba River District Ranger Karen HaydenNevada City, CA – Karen Hayden has been selected as the Yuba River district ranger on the Tahoe National Forest. Hayden is currently the Feather River district ranger on the Plumas National Forest, a position she has held since 2004.
Hayden began her 32-year Forest Service career as a wildland fire lookout on the Angeles National Forest and has since worked on numerous national forests in California, including the Eldorado, Los Padres, Plumas, Shasta-Trinity, and Tahoe. In addition, Hayden has served in several short-term regional and national Forest Service assignments, including a trip to Siberia to help Russian scientists develop a Forest Management Plan.
Hayden’s Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife and fisheries biology from the University of California at Davis has been her foundation for numerous on-the-ground work and leadership opportunities in botany, fisheries, fire, fuels, law enforcement, recreation, timber, wildlife, and more. Her extensive wildland fire experience includes hand and engine crew work as well as prescribed burn planning and implementation; Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation assessment and implementation; and fire prevention and investigation on assignments throughout the western United States and Guam.
“I am excited to return to the Tahoe as the Yuba River district ranger. I look forward to serving and working with Tahoe employees; resident and visiting constituents; and local, county, state, and federal officials,” said Hayden.
“I am very pleased that Karen will be serving in this capacity. Her wide range of experience will add depth to our current solid leadership team in support of the Tahoe’s complex program of work,” said Tahoe National Forest Supervisor Tom Quinn.
Hayden will report to her new position on October 21 and replaces Genice Froehlich, who is now serving as the natural resources staff officer in the Tahoe National Forest headquarters in Nevada City. Jonathan Cook-Fisher has been acting district ranger since early July.
