Tortilla Fire Public Safety Closure Order
Mesa, Ariz.(August 25, 2011) – Mesa Ranger District fire specialists, Tonto National Forest, are currently monitoring a 1,700-acre fire on the south side of Highway 88, near Fish Creek. The lightning-caused fire is burning in rough terrain and vegetation.
In order to provide for public and firefighter safety, Forest Road 213 is closed from its intersection with at Highway 88 northwest for approximately 2.5 miles. This area is primarily used for hiking, Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) and hunting.
Due to current monsoon humidity, lightning-caused fires can be allowed to play their natural role in the forest ecosystem.
