Fire Personnel Available and Ready to Respond
Release Date: May 28, 2016
PHOENIX, May 28, 2016—For Immediate Release. Fire Personnel are out patrolling and ready to respond to any reports of smoke on the Tonto National Forest. “Despite committing people to the Juniper Fire the Tonto has brought in additional resources and is prepared in case we get any additional fire activity, said Don Nunley, Fire Staff for the Tonto National Forest. Engines and prevention patrols are on the Cave Creek, Globe, Mesa, Tonto Basin, Payson, and Pleasant Valley ranger districts. There is an Initial Attack crew at Globe, and an additional Hotshot Crew at Mesa. These strategically placed resources are available and ready to respond should a fire be reported. In addition to the Engines and ground crews, there are two helicopters stationed at Payson; and four airtankers and three lead plane and/or air attack planes at Williams-Gateway Airport.
The Tonto National Forest is counting on our recreating public to be careful with campfires, target shooting, and their vehicles, to prevent any unwanted fires this holiday weekend. One less spark, could mean one less wildlife. If any fires do start, the Forest is ready to respond. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.
