Oak Flat Campground Closed for Tribal Activities on the Tonto National Forest

PHOENIX (September 26) – The Oak Flat Campground on the Globe Ranger District, Tonto National Forest, will be closed to the general public Monday, September 29, 2014, until Friday, October 10, 2014.
The closure is to provide for the privacy and security of tribal activities for traditional and cultural purposes. The closure will be in effect September 29, at 8:00 am until midnight, Friday, October 10. Adjacent Forest Service land is available for recreational use.
Oak Flat Campground is approximately 4 miles east of Superior and ½ mile south of Highway 60. This area is a developed non-fee campground used primarily for primitive camping and off- highway recreation.
The campground area has one main entrance and one alternate entrance. Forest Road (FR) 2438 is the main entrance and will be closed utilizing barricades. The second entrance is FR 469. This road will also be closed utilizing barricades.
