The Camp Fire is anticipated to be 50% contained by 8:00 p.m. July 17, 2015. At approximately 5:00 p.m. last night, two air tankers from California dropped fire retardant along the northern and eastern perimeter of the fire. At this time, the fire perimeter continues to hold, keeping the fire at approximately 650 acres.
Firefighters are fighting the Camp Fire in grass, brush, pinyon, and juniper within the footprint of the 2005 Cave Creek Complex Fire. It has burned east and north of Bronco Trailhead
With the addition of two Hotshot crews, Geronimo Hotshots from San Carlos Agency, San Carlos, Az. and Fort Apache Hotshots from Fort Apache Agency, Whiteriver, Az., firefighters are employing desert firefighting tactics. These tactics include spare water use and checking the ground at the fire perimeter to determine a “cold line” where there is no evidence of heat.
Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers and Maricopa County Sheriff Officers remain on scene continuing the investigation of the fire’s cause. Forest Service Road 24 is open in both directions. Bronco Trailhead is also open for recreation use. However, the public is being asked to be respectful of firefighter activity and equipment.
No structures or homes are threatened.
Resources assigned:
