Release Date: Aug 3, 2015

Cooler temperatures Sunday allowed crews to make significant progress on wildfires sparked by Saturday’s storm. The majority of small fires have been contained and firefighters continue to make headway in identifying and suppressing new starts. Nearly all the lightning-started fires are on the Diamond Lake Ranger District with the largest cluster west of Garwood Butte.
Eight wildfires located in the Deer Creek area east of Boulder Creek Wilderness and west of Potter Mountain will be managed as the Potter Mountain Complex. The largest fire in the complex is incident 235 and is 100 acres. The complex is currently being managed by the Gila Las Cruces Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team. More resources to support the complex have been ordered.

Forest Closures/Public Use Restrictions
As it is the beginning of hunting season for both bear and youth cow elk, please remember that Public Use Restrictions remain in effect. Campfires are only allowed in designated campgrounds.
Firefighter and public safety is our number one concern during fire season. With temperatures expected to be in the 90’s for the remainder of the week, the Forest fire managers anticipate additional fires. As we work to contain new starts, please be aware of firefighters and equipment on both forest and county roads. Smoke from the Cable Crossing and Stouts fires also limit visibility while driving; allow extra time for slower and safe travel.
