Snowmobiling Conditions Unstable on Rifle Ranger District

Rifle, Colo., (Dec. 28, 2015) – Recent and heavy snowfall has prompted visitors to get out and enjoy winter on the Rifle Ranger District, especially the areas open for snowmobiling. However, current conditions are extremely unstable. There is no solid snow base and snow conditions change daily with the weather. Due to the instability of the snow, regular grooming and marking has not occurred.

The Rifle Ranger District greatly appreciates the snowmobile clubs for their commitment to groom and mark trails. As conditions improve, they will be able to maintain the established trails. Less experienced snowmobilers should stay on groomed or well-traveled trails, leaving back country snowmobiling to highly experienced and seasoned snowmobilers.

Please call the Rifle Ranger District at 970-625-2371 for current information on snow conditions.
