Deception Creek Complex - Staley Complex - Middle Fork District Initial Attack

August 13, 2014 12:00 pm

Crews have been busy responding to 60 fires on the Middle Fork Ranger District started by the lightning event that began Sunday. Air resources and crews are being shared among response teams, with ground crews responding to accessible locations and rappellers to remote locations.  Crews are taking advantage of moist conditions from recent precipitation to locate, scout and suppress new starts.  Although moisture has aided initial attack efforts, only trace amounts are making it through the dense old-growth canopy and fires are continuing to smolder and burn.

Deception Creek Complex

  • Efforts are being focused on a fire south of Oakridge near Larison Rock and crews have lined 30% of the fire and have been able to go direct based on weather conditions.
  • Two fires in the Deception Rock area are likely to burn together, and will require indirect attack due to steep terrain.
  • Crews had to disengage yesterday afternoon due to lightning.
  • Total of 9 fires; ranging in size from 1/10 to 18 acres.
