Fishing Day is an annual event hosted by the Glacier Ranger District. The 2014 event will be held on June 7th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Moose Flats in Portage Valley. The event is organized as an interagency effort between Glacier Ranger District, Anchorage Municipality Watershed Management Division, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
Highlights for the day include a barbeque with hotdogs and lemonade, a fish painting station using rubber fish to make cool imprints on t-shirts, a casting competition, appearances by Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl, a natural resources game area, a bait and fishing rod table for those who didn't bring their own, as well as a raffle for fishing rods, lures, hats, and various other fishing-related items. Of course the day would not be complete without the efforts of Alaska Department of Fish and Game stocking the Moose Flats pond with about 1,000 catchable rainbow trout.
