Friends Director Skip Repetto and Chugach National Forest Supervisor Terri Marceron signed a 5-year Collection Agreement with the purpose to document the voluntary contribution of funds from the Friends of the Chugach NF Avalanche Information Center to the USFS to assist with funding for FS staffing, equipment, gear, weather stations and support of the CNFAIC operations. Friends funding contributed to the CNF in FY 13 is over $25,000 to fund salary for 2 forecasters at 60 days/each. The Friends of the CNFAIC hope to facilitate more funding in future fiscal years to cover new snowmobiles, trailer, maintenance, and funding for outreach, travel, and supplies.
The CNFAIC was established in 2003 to help bridge the gap between Federal funding and actual expenses needed to run the CNFAIC. It was established in response to an avalanche that took the lives of 6 snowmachiners in Turnagain Pass in March 1999.
Chugach NFAIC operations are led by David Ilse, Graham Predeger, Kevin Wright, Wendy Wagner, John Fitzgerald and Alex McLain.
