ARRA work accomplished on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) was an economic stimulus package enacted by the 111th United States Congress and signed into law on February 17, 2009, by President Barack Obama. Commonly referred to as the “Stimulus” or “Recovery” Act, it was an extraordinary response to a crisis unlike any since the Great Depression.
Capital Improvement and Maintenance and Wildland Fire Management were the specific response areas on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest (the Forest). With approximately $10,000,000 in appropriated funds, the Forest was responsive to invest in “priority road, bridge and trail maintenance and decommissioning, including related watershed restoration and ecosystem enhancement projects; facilities improvement, maintenance and renovation; remediation of abandoned mines sites; [hazardous fuels reduction, forest health protection, rehabilitation and hazard mitigation activities]; and support costs necessary to carry out this work.”
A total of 670 jobs were created on the Shasta-Trinity from 2009-2013. 860 miles of priority road, bridge and trail maintenance was accomplished along with 5790 acres of hazardous fuels reduction and 44 facilities improved or renovated. The Forest is honored to share some of their accomplishments as a direct result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
