The Vesuvius Recreation Area has long been a popular place for locals and visitors alike. This picture shows the beach in July 1946. See the links below for memories from local people who have known the lake all their lives.

This old rail road bed was exposed in the boat dock hollow as the lake waters receded. We believe it dates back to the iron furnace era. Gus and Adam, volunteers at the nature center pose with the historic railroad ties.
