• Eclipse Special First-Floor Open House with Reduced Ticket Price Copy link to this event

  A Solar Eclipse is happening April 8, 2024, across the United States. To celebrate Grey Towers NHS is offering a first-floor open house with a reduced ticket price of $5.00 per person. Museum entry will begin at 11:00am with the last ticket being sold at 1:30pm. The open house will conclude at 2:00pm in preparation for Eclipse viewing. Ticket sales will begin in person on April 8, 2024, at 10:30am in our Visitor Center. The Eclipse will begin around 2:00pm with totality taking place around 3:20pm. Guest should bring solar glasses or a handheld solar viewer for eye protection. Ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, or homemade filters are not safe for looking at the sun and use of these will cause permanent retinal burns. Children must remain supervised and carpooling is highly suggested as parking is limited.

  Limited tours will begin the season, running Fridays through Mondays starting on May 3, 2024, through May 20, 2024. There will be an 11am, 1pm and 3pm ticketed tour offered.The full 2024 tour season will begin on Friday May 24, 2024, running through October 31, 2024. Ticketed tours will be offered Thursdays through Mondays at 11am, noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.Tickets can be purchased in person on the day of the tour at our visitor center located in the historic Letterbox starting at 10:30am. Our giftshop sponsored by the Grey Towers Heritage Association located in the visitor center will be open from 10:30am to 3:00pm on tour days. The giftshop will be open 11am through 1pm on non-tour days. Vehicle gates open daily weather permitting, from 9am to 4:30pm with no fees to enter the grounds or to park.

  Bring your calling card (ticket) and visit with actors who will impersonate and interpret the history of Grey Towers.

  

  Start with James and Mary Pinchot in the Great Hall. Meet Gifford Pinchot in the Library and learn of his contributions not only to the Forest Service but also his service as Governor. Meet Cornelia in the Drawing Room. Then go upstairs to meet Teddy Roosevelt; and finally, to the third-floor bedrooms to meet “Giffy.”

  Alas, stop for some refreshments before exiting through the servant’s quarters.

  Tours start at 11 am and run every 20 minutes with last tour at 2pm.

  Dr. Paul Kovalski, GTHA member and Dentist by profession retired as Chief of Dental Services at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, New Jersey Department of Health.

  Kovalski is fascinated by the secrets hidden in bones, ancient and modern and is well known as “Dr. Dinosaur” for his paleontological discoveries. He is also a tree enthusiast.

  When Paul served as a Marlboro Township Councilman, he set out to save the “Marlboro Tree,” a gigantic old willow which was the largest in the state. His tour will highlight the more than 25 varieties of trees beloved by the Pinchot family.”

  2024 Reading Ranger Program

  Stories focusing on conservation will be read by a Forest Service Ranger on Monday mornings 10AM until 11AM. Followed by a craft activity, hike, or scavenger hunt. Parents are required to remain on site during this program. The program will be held at the lower pavilion, located at the lower parking lot of Grey Towers. There is no cost to attend.

  The annual performance of Charles Dickens’ immortal classic A Christmas Carol.

  

  This 90-minute two-person performance features the original text by Charles Dickens as he himself performed it during his reading tour of America. For 44 years, one or more members of the Plummer family have presented this performance in the Great Hall of Grey Towers. This year, siblings Therese and Joe Plummer, Jr. continue this proud holiday tradition.
