A free presentation of Era of Megafires is Friday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Putnam Centennial Center, 719 E. 3rd Street in Cle Elum.
Dr. Paul Hessburg of the US Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station will narrate the 60-minute mixed-media presentation. The presentation includes a discussion by Hessburg, complimented by video clips created by wildlife photographer John Marshall, and an opportunity for public questions and comments.
Megafires are wildfires over 100,000 acres which are becoming more common throughout western North America. These fires have devastating effects on the landscape and neighboring communities. Dr. Hessburg chose this multi-media format as a way to encourage discussion on how megafires are impacting communities today as well as in the future, what actions can be taken to lessen their impact, and how to create a more fire resilient landscape.
