Help fight glossy buckthorn at Black River Harbor!
The Ottawa National Forest is hosting a National Public Lands Day event at Black River Harbor on Lake Superior. Volunteers will learn different techniques for controlling the non-native invasive plant glossy buckthorn (Rhamnus frangula). We will hand-pull, cut, and herbicide bushes around the edge of the picnic area. Picnic lunch to follow.
When: September 25, 2010. 9:00 AM cst.
Where: Black River Harbor, at the north end of County Road 513 (Black River Scenic Byway). From Bessemer, turn north at the traffic light on Moore Street and drive 15 miles north, park in parking lot at the harbor.
What to bring: Water, boots, and a picnic lunch. We will supply drinks, gloves, tools, and safety equipment.
