Area Status: Closed

Buckaloons Recreation Area is located on the west bank of the Allegheny River and is an access point for canoeing the Allegheny River Island Wilderness, which lies in the stretch of the river between Buckaloons and Tionesta.

Buckaloons is surrounded on three sides by bodies of water including, Irvine Run to the west, Brokenstraw Creek to the south, and the Allegheny River to the east.

In addition to the one-lane concrete plank boat launch, there is a 1-mile hardened interpretive trail surrounding the entire recreation site and providing access to fishing opportunities on the Allegheny River, Brokenstraw Creek an Irvine Run.

Operational Hours: Quiet hours 10:00 pm to 6:00 am
Reservations: Reservations are accepted for some single sites and all 11 cabins from March 31 – October 31. First come, first served sites are also available.
  • Reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance of visit.
  • Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance of visit.
  • Visit Recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 to make a reservation.
Fees: Campground: 
  • Single site daily camping fee - $20.00 to $25.00/site 
  • Double site daily camping fee - $40.00 to $50.00/site 
  • Group site daily camping fee - $40.00 to $100.00/site 
Boat Launch: 
  • Daily launching fee - $5.00/per vehicle - $1.00/per person 
  • Season vehicle launching pass - $55.00 (Covers all day use boat launches) 
Day Use and Picnic Pavilion: 
  • Per Person (bike/bus) - $1.00 
  • Passenger Vehicle - $5.00 
  • Pavilion - $40.00 to $100.00/Group site

From Warren

  • Travel west on US-6/Route 62
  • Exit at the Tidioute/Tionesta exit for Route 62
  • Travel for <1 mile and turn right onto Old US-6/National Forge Road.
  • Follow Old US-6/National Forge Road for .2 miles.
  • Turn left/south onto the campground road.
