Twin Lakes Cabin

The cabin is located at the base of Squaw and Jumbo mountains on the shore of Twin Lakes. The cabin was built in the 1920s to provide field quarters for trail crews, smoke chasers, timber cruisers or grazing inspectors.

General Information

Directions:

This cabin is located approximately 26 miles from Wisdom. Take Highway 278 and head south from Wisdom about 6 1/2 miles.  Look for the sign for National Forest access to Twin Lakes, and head west.  Continue following the signs to Twin Lakes.  Drive west 8 miles on Twin Lakes Road (Briston Lane), then turn left (south) onto Forest Service Road #945 (Foothill Road).  Follow that road south 4.8 miles until you reach FS Road #183 (Big Lake Creek Road), at the beginning of National Forest land.  Follow FS#183 west 6 miles, into the mountains, to Twin Lakes.  The cabin is in Twin Lake Campground.

WINTER ACCESS:  During the winter Twin Lakes Road is only plowed a few miles.  The end of the plowed road is approximately 12 miles from the cabin.

  • There is no water or electricity at this cabin.
  • There is no garbage service so please bring garbage bags and pack out what you pack in.
  • Firewood is provided.
  • Propane is NOT provided. Visitors must bring their own small canisters.
  • There is no cell phone coverage in the area.

Potential exposure to hantavirus due to mice. Exposure to rodent poison present in cabin is hazardous to children and pets.
 


Seasonal Information

There is a Mandatory Food Storage order in effect annually March 1 to December 1.


General Notes

The cabin is a one room wood building. It has two beds, a wood-burning stove and a propane cook stove. The cabin is equipped with a table, cooking and eating utensils, axe, shovel, bucket, and cleaning gear. The cabin has no electricity or running water. There is an outdoor toilet.
