The McCain Guard Station is a rustic cabin that is popular year-round, with hikers and horseback riders using it during the summer months and snowmobile enthusiasts using it throughout the winter. Several trails are nearby, and the open meadows offer gentle sledding for younger riders.
This guard station is located 23 miles from Alpine up the Little Greys River Road. The station's visitor capacity is 8 people, on 4 bunkbeds. No potable water nor electricity are available at this guard station. There is a propane heater, a propane cook top, and propane lights. Toilet facilities are located outdoors separate from the guard station.

Starting from the Town of Alpine, Wyoming, located just North of the Town of Afton, Wyoming, head East on United States Highway 89 (US-89) towards Greys River Road, make a right turn on Greys River Road (Forest Road 10138) for approximately 8 miles, then make a left on Little Greys Road Junction (Forest Road 10124), staying on the road for 14 miles, bearing left at the next road where you will see the entrance to the McCain Guard Station on the left.
