Horse Creek Recreation Area is located eight miles from Greeneville, off TN 107 north. This recreation area is nestled into a hardwood cove beside its namesake, Horse Creek.
There are facilities for camping and day-use activities including hiking, fishing, picnicking and swimming. During the 1930’s, a rustic picnic pavilion and swimming area were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Company 1455, Camp Cordell Hull, stationed in Unicoi.

Camping fee is $10 per night. The pavilion can be reserved for a $30 per day fee. There is no fee for Day Use. Reservations for the pavilion can be made through Recreation.gov; online reservations through recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777.

Camping and picnicking are on a first-come, first-served basis. Group size is 5 people, 2 vehicles per site. No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the area.

Forest Service Volunteer Campground Hosts help manage the area and can provide visitor information.
From Greeneville, take TN 107 north for six miles. Turn right at Horse Creek Road and follow the signs about two miles to the recreation area.
Horse Creek Recreation Area offers camping opportunities for tents and RVs. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, firering and lantern post. Six of the 15 campsites are walk-in tent sites. The remaining sites can accomodate up to a 24 foot camper.

River and Stream Fishing
There are several native trout streams within and nearby Horse Creek Recreation Area. See Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency for permits as well as rules and regulations on fishing.
From May 1st to October 15, special fishing regulations apply to the section of Horse Creek within the recreation area. Only disabled persons, children aged 12 and under and senior citizens (65 and older) are allowed to fish in this section, with a limit of two fish per day. Above the intersection of Squibb Creek and Horse Creek, fishing is open to all licensed anglers. Refer to Forest Supervisor's Order and TWRA rules for additional information and regulations that apply.
Rainbow and brook trout
Fly fishing is very popular.
There are two areas for picnicking in the Horse Creek Recreation Area, one upstream and one downstream of the campground.

There is a reservable pavilion for group picknicking at Horse Creek Recreation Area.
Pavilion can be reserved for $30 a day. Please call Nolichucky District Office for reservations.
