Eastwood Recreation Area

If you are looking for a base camp to explore area trails or a destination campground with a family friendly atmosphere, try the Eastwood Campground on the Mondeaux Flowage northwest of Medford.

The Eastwood Campground is part of the Mondeaux Recreation Area on the Medford-Park Falls Ranger District. The site has 12 campsites equipped with a parking spur, campfire rings with grill, picnic table, vault toilets and drinking water. There are accessible vault toilet facilities and a fishing pier at nearby Lakeview Day Use Site.

Eastwood Campground is located 25 minutes north of Medford. The Eastwood Campground is pet friendly; See restrictions below for more information.

Reservations: This campground mixes first-come, first-serve, and reservable sites. For reservation information, visit www.recreation.gov or call 877-444-677 (TDD 877-833-6777).
Fees: $15 per night for a single site or $7.50 with the use of an Interagency Pass (access or senior).
Permit Info: A variety of recreation passes are accepted. More information is available on our Passes and Permits page.

Restrictions: Campsite Capacity
  • A maximum of eight people and four vehicles are allowed at each campsite. Vehicles include vehicles, wheeled camping units, and trailers.
Pets and Animals
  • Pets must be crated, caged, or on a leash less than 6’ in length while in developed recreation areas.
Firewood Closure Order
  • The firewood closure order prohibits possessing, storing, or transporting any firewood that originates more than 25 miles from your campsite. For more information, click here.
  • For current fire danger, check the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources burn restrictions website. Any prohibitions in place, including fire bans, will be posted on our website and site bulletin boards.
Quiet Hours
  • Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 6 am.
  • The use of generators is not allowed during quiet hours.
Occupancy & Use Restrictions ATV & UTV operation is prohibited in the campground.

Passes: The USDA Forest Service honors all four Interagency Recreation Passes that may be applied at National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Fish and Wildlife sites charging recreation use fees.

General Information

Directions:

Travel north from Medford on State Highway 13 for about 15 miles. Then turn left (west) on county trunk highway D for 6.5 miles, then turn left (south) on Forest Road 104 for 1.5 miles. Turn left (south) at Forest Road 104 and travel 0.5 miles to the campground entrance.

Activities

Campground Camping

The rustic Eastwood Recreation Area is on the beautiful 411-acre Mondeaux Flowage. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring. Garbage and recycling dumpsters are in the campground for campers only. While close to the lake, the sites need access to the water. Most sites are spacious and over 35’ long.

Lake and Pond Fishing

The Mondeaux Flowage has good fishing opportunities. A boat landing is located one mile from Forest Road 106. Some lakes have special fishing regulations, so please check the regulations for your fishing area.

Fish Species Crappie, bluegill, northern pike, musky, and walleye.

Day Hiking

There are a couple of options for hiking at Eastwood. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail runs next to the campground. Another option is the Aldo Leopold Nature Trail which is 1.5 miles from the campground on Forest Road 106.

Boating - Motorized

This is a motorized flowage mainly used for fishing. As a shallow flowage with occasional stumps, it is not conducive to water sports such as tubing and skiing. A boat landing is located one mile from Forest Road 106. Water access is not available from the Eastwood Recreation Area.

Boating - Non-Motorized

The Mondeaux Flowage is great for canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding around the curvy lakeshore. A boat landing is located one mile from Forest Road 106. Water access is not available from the Eastwood Recreation Area.

Swimming

A swimming beach is located near the lodge, 1.5 miles off Forest Road 106. This beach is for campers and non-campers.
