September 14, 2012: The timber salvage operation has been completed, and the area is open for day-use.  The area will be open from sunrise to sunset every day of the week, but remains closed to all camping.

During this extended and unavoidable camping closure, visitors are encouraged to make use of nearby areas on the national forest that have campgrounds, including DeSoto Falls Recreation Area, Dockery Lake Recreation Area and Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area. Vogel State Park (GA DNR) also offers excellent camping opportunities, and a number of private campgrounds exist in the area.

Restrictions:
  • Area closed to all camping
  • No RV’s or Trailers
  • Park in designated areas only
  • No OHV's or any non-street legal vehicles
Closest Towns: Boggs Creek is convenient to Dahlonega and Cleveland, GA.  Both towns are approximately 15 miles, or 30 minutes, from the recreation area.
Water: No drinking water available
Restroom: 1 Flush Facility (No Restroom Facility 11/16/2012-12/31/2012 & 01/01/2013-04/01/2013)

General Information

Directions:

From Blairsville, GA take U.S. Hwy. 19/129 south for 20 miles to entrance on left.  Entrance is indicated by a small brown/white sign located approximately 1/8 mile before the access road.  From this direction, vehicles must make a hard left turn into the recreation area.

From Dahlonega, GA take Hwy. 19 north for 15 miles to entrance on right.  Entrance is indicated by a small brown/white sign located approximately 1/8 mile before the access road.
