Tanner Butte Trail (#401)

Area Status: Closed

This area was severely burned by the 2017 Eagle Creek Fire.

The Trail remains CLOSED; restoration work will begin in 2025.

Beginning in stands of Douglas-fir and noble and silver fir, the trail switchbacks uphill for 2.2 miles to the junction with Wauna Point Trail #402. Continue on #401 and into Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness for 2.1 miles to the Dublin Lake turn-off. There are several opportunities to connect with other trails. Please consult an up to date map showing topographic features when planning backpacking trips.

Tanner Butte is located on Mt. Hood National Forest, a further 4.5 miles south on #401. To make this a loop trail, double back to Dublin Lake and hike west on Tanner Creek Trail #431 (area is unavailable) and Forest Service Road 777 for a further 2.5 miles north back to the parking lot.  Wilderness portion of the trail is brushy and requires good route-finding skills. The trail is 8 miles in total.
