Passes: No fee for trail use. All vehicles on KY 15 or in the Red River Gorge and Indian Creek area north of KY 15 must display a recreation permit for backcountry camping between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. $5/day; $7/3 days; $50/annual pass.

General Information

Directions:

Traveling east on the Mountain Parkway, take exit 33 at Slade. Turn left and then right onto KY 15. This campground is 5 miles on the left. 


Accessibility:

Site 46 in the tent area meets accessibility standards for persons with disabilities. The bathhouse and toilets are accessible. The parking area at the bathhouse is accessible. 


General Notes:

Sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis with no reservations accepted. 

Check-in instructions are on the bulletin board at the entrance. Campers can stay a maximum of 14 days without special permission. 


Parking:

Parking is available at the campground for campers staying at the Koomer Ridge Campground. 
Parking for backpackers and hikers is allowed at Koomer Ridge, but only at the trailhead parking lot.

Campground Camping

The Koomer Ridge Campground features semi-primitive camping in a tranquil forest setting.

Fire Information Campfires are permitted in fire rings only. Make sure fires are out before retiring at night or when leaving your campsite.

Visitor programs are held on weekends.

Amenities

Camping trailer: 15 sites can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet; no water or electric hookups; no RV dump station.
Picnic tables: Picnic tables are available at the campsites and trailheads.
Tent camping: 54 sites for camping year-round. Tent site #46 is accessible.
Toilets: Accessible vault toilets are available all year. The flush toilets are not available in the winter.
Accessible: Accessible bathhouse and toilets are available except in winter. Accessible parking and vault toilets are available year-round.
Drinking water: Drinking water is available from hydrants all year.
