This section of the Sheltowee Trace is located on London Ranger District. It begins at the bridge over Kentucky River on KY 399 near Heidelberg, a small community north of the river.
The trail follows the highway for 1.1 miles and then turns southwest onto Cressmont/Todds Road. The road changes from pavement to gravel and parallels Sturgeon Creek. At 5.3 miles, the trail leaves the main road and turns west onto a private gravel lane. The trail crosses Cooperas Cave Branch and enters the woods. There are four creek fords along this section of the trail. The trail climbs to Forest Service Road 3047, turning west and following the road to an intersection with Hale Ridge Road.
Most of this trail section occurs on paved or gravel roads. A short section is located on steep slopes and may not be suitable for mountain bikes.
