Caney Trail #1226
Caney Trail is one of the most popular and heavily used trails on Cave Run Lake on the Cumberland Ranger District. Hikers and horseback riders enjoy the trail for its easy access, terrain, views of Cave Run Lake and connection to other trails. The trail is forested and relatively level with several short climbs in and out of drainages. The trail connects to the Sheltowee Trace, which can be followed north back to Stoney Cove (2.5 miles) or south towards White Sulphur Horse Camp and the Pioneer Weapons Wildlife Management Area.
The trail begins at Stoney Cove Trailhead. Follows the lakeshore for 6.3 miles then connects with the Sheltowee Trace Trail #100 taking you back to Stoney Cove for about a 9-mile loop. Very popular loop because proximity to I-64 and other recreational attractions. Difficulty level: easy.
Horse use and hiking are permitted. Mountain biking and motorized use are not permitted. Trail open to horses and hikers May 15 to December 15. Open to hikers only December 16 to May 14.

Trail Connections: Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail #100 Section 9 (11 miles).
