Area Status: Closed

Location: 23 miles east of Placerville on Highway 50 then 24 miles north on Ice House Road (Forest Road 3), and 3 miles north on Forest Road 33. Sites are arranged into pods to accommodate groups of 15 – 25 people.

Restrictions:
  • There is no piped water at the campground. Water from the creek is available but should be boiled before using. Water quality testing is not performed on open water sources.
  • Please keep family pets on a leash at all times.
  • All food must be stored in the Bear Boxes.
  • Use only dead and down wood for your campfires.
  • Make sure your fire is dead out before leaving.
  • Check ahead. Campfires may not be allowed during fire restrictions. 
  • Please limit OHV use within the campground to entering and exiting for access to local trails. Any person operating an ATV on public lands must wear a proper safety helmet. (CVC 38505). No operator of an ATV shall carry a passenger when operating on public lands. (CVC 38506). 
  • No person shall operate, transport, or leave standing any off-highway vehicle without proper Green Sticker registration. (CVC 38020).

River and Stream Fishing

Facility is next to a small river and the small Gerle Creek Reservoir is a native brown trout fishery.. Fishing is allowed according to state fishing regulations.

Day Hiking

Several short trails are in the vicinity. The Summer Harvest trail is an interpretive trail that curves along west side of the reservoir. The Gerle Creek Trail runs between the campground and the Angel Creek picnic area on the east side of the reservoir.
