The semi-primitive area provides solitude to backpackers as well as horseback riders with spectacular views of the Warner Mountains, Hart Mountain, Warner Valley, and Abert Rim. The Fremont National Recreation Trail, accessed at the South Fork Crooked Creek Trailhead or the Swale Trailhead goes through the area.

Directions: From Lakeview District office, go 2.5 miles north on Highway 395, and turn right on Highway 140. Take Highway 140 east for 8 miles, then turn left onto Forest Road 3615. Go on Forest Road 3615 for 10.5 miles and you should see the South Fork of Crooked Creek Trailhead. From the trailhead, go up Forest Road 184. At the end of the road, hike up and over the ridge to the east, and you are in the Semi-Primitive Area. There are no boundary signs.
