Walt Hering’s convenient location and fast access to the Chemult Ranger District, make it a popular destination. Walt Haring is located approximately 5 minutes north of Chemult, Oregon. It is a popular winter destination for snowmobile riders and cross country skiers with its lodge-style snow shelter.
There is a campground with five campsites next to the parking lot that are convenient for short-term camping in the summer. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, and there are also five day use picnic sites. Additional amenities include four water spigots and four vault toilets.
Campsite fees are $6.00/night and $5.00 fee to use the RV dump station at the west end of the grounds. Sno-Park permits are needed Novermber 1st through April 30th.
Lodgepole pine trees dominate Walt Haring with a few ponderosa pines sprinkled among them. In the summer you can hike on the cross country ski and snowmobile trails that shoot off from the campground. Walt Haring is often used for hunting camps in the fall.
