Trail #72 Cold Springs
General trail guide for Morrison Creek area. Trails include: Snipes Mountain #11, Gotchen Creek #40, Buck Creek #54, Pine Way #71, Cold Springs #72, Crofton Butte #73, and Salt Creek #75.
This moderately used trail is located on the lower southern slopes of Mt. Adams. The trail descends through lava flows and young forests, forming an access route between Gotchen Creek Trail #40 and South Climb Trailhead located near the timberline on Mt. Adams. This trails features include wildflower viewing and the A.G. Aiken Lava Flow. Much of the trail travels through an area heavily burned in the Cold Springs and Cascade Creek fires of 2008 & 2012.

General Information
Directions:Trail can be accessed from South Climb Trailhead just south of the Mt. Adams Wilderness where South Climb Trail #183 and Cold Springs Trail #72 depart.
The trail may also be accessed via Gotchen Creek Trail #40, or Forest Road 8040500.
To South Climb Trailhead from Trout Lake, WA take Mt Adams Road north to the V intersection with Forest Road 23. At this intersection stay to the right and continue about one mile to a hard-to-see intersection with Forest Road 80 on the left signed for South Climb. Turn left and stay on Forest Road 80 for 3.7 miles to its intersection with Forest Road 8040. Turn right onto FR 8040 and follow this for 8.1 miles to its termination at the South Climb and Coldsprings Trailheads.
