Trail #176 Elk Lake
This Trail Open to Hiker and Equestrian Use.
Located in the mid-section of Indian Heaven Wilderness, this short trail takes off from the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail #2000 near Bear Lake and drops down to Elk Lake (4,685' elevation). This trail offers fishing opportunities in Elk Lake and Bear Lake.

General Information
Directions:Shortest access to this trail would be to take the East Crater Trail from East Crater Trailhead to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail and hike north to Elk Lake Trail.
From Trout Lake, Washington, drive west on Highway 141. At the Forest Boundry Highway 141 becomes Forest Road 24. Continue west on Forest Road 24 past Peterson Prairie Campground to the intersection with Forest Road 60. At this intersection continue straight onto Forest Road 60. At the intersection with Forest Road 66 follow the signs for Goose Lake, taking a right to continue driving west on Forest Road 60 . After about one and one-half miles there will be a sign for Forlorn Lakes Campground. Turn right onto Forest Road 6035 at the sign and continue on this road past the campground to the trailhead well signed on the left.
From Carson, Washington, drive north for 4.8 miles on Wind River Highway (Forest Road 30) to Panther Creek Road. Take a right on Panther Creek Road at the sign for Panther Creek Campground. Stay on this road which becomes Forest Road 65 at the Forest Boundry for approximately 11 miles. At the intersection with Forest Road 60, take a right onto Forest Road 60. Continue on Forest Road 60 past Goose Lake to the sign for Forlorn Lakes Campground. Turn left at the sign on to Forest Road 6035 and continue past the campground to the trailhead on the left.
