Trail #146 Grassy Knoll
This Trail Open to Hiker and Equestrian Use.
This steep trail follow a ridge through rolling hills with oak trees providing shade and grassy meadows with excellent views of the River, the Big Lava Big and surrounding mountains. Cold springs, located about 5 miles from the trailhead, provides a good cooling-off spot on this otherwise dry hike. The trail ends on the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail #2000 below Big Huckleberry Mountain. Grassy Knoll was the site of a fire lookout in the 1930's. In season a large number of species of plants provide a spectacular wildflower display.

General Information
Directions:There are two routes to Grassy Knoll Trailhead
From Carson, Washington take Wind River Highway to Bear Creek Road and turn right. Continue on Bear Creek to the Forest boundary where it becomes Forest Road 6808. Stay on Forest Road 6808 to the junction with Forest Road 68 at Triangle Pass. Turn left on to Forest Road 68 and drive about 1.5 miles to Spur Road 511 and the trailhead at the junction in the road.
From Willard, Washington take Forest Road 66 to the junction with Forest Road 68. Veer left on to Forest Road 68 and go past the intersection with Forest Road 6808 to the trailhead located at the junction with Spur road 511 .

Recreation areas with activity Backpacking: A fire lookout was constructed on Grassy Knoll in 1934 and was later abandoned and destroyed. A lookout was also constructed on Big Huckleberry Mountain in the 1920s. It was replaced with another building in the 1930's.Horse Riding
