Juniper Campground is Quemado Ranger District's most popular campground. It offers full RV hookups, leveled tent sites, and easy lake access. Maximum RV size is 35'.

Current Conditions: Water is typically turned off October 1 for the season.
Operational Hours:  All Gila NF campgrounds have a 14 day stay limit. Juniper Campground will be open from May 12 - Sept. 24, 2023.
Reservations: The odd-numbered electrical sites (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17) are available on Recreation.gov for making reservations beginning June 1 annually. All remaining sites will be on a first-come/first-serve basis.

Fees: Single sites cost $15 per night; double sites cost $25 per night. There are 17 RV sites with hookups and the fee is $25 per night, and odd-numbered electrical sites (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17) are available for reservation on Recreation.gov. These sites can accommodate a 35' RV.  there America the Beautiful Interagency Senior and Access Passes are honored for 1/2 off on camping fees.

Restrictions:
  • There is a 14 day stay limit on all campgrounds on the Gila National Forest and the portion of the Apache Forest located in New Mexico.
  • OHV/ATV use is prohibited in the Quemado Lake Recreation Area.
  • Hunting and target shooting is prohibited in the recreation area.
  • All dogs must be on a leash at all times in the campground.
  • No tents are allowed in the RV loop.
  • Horses are prohibited in the Quemado Lake Recreation Area. There is a throwdown area outside the recreation area at El Caso Throwdown.

General Information

Directions:

The campground is located southeast of Quemado, NM.  Take NM 32 south 14.2 miles to Quemado Lake/NM 103 sign. At sign turn left onto NM 103 and go 4 miles to where Forest Road 13 (gravel) begins. Continue straight on FR 13 for one (1) mile to campground sign. Turn right into campground.

Campground Camping

There are 18 tent sites available on a first come, first served basis.  Each site has a picnic table and fire ring/bbq grill.

RV Camping

There are 17 RV sites available that will accommodate up to a 35' RV. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring/bbq grill. No tents are permited in the RV loop. The odd-numbered electrical sites (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17) are available (as of April 1, 2021) on Recreation.gov for dates beginning June 1.

The dump station fee is $15.

The campground provides access to the Lakeshore Trail and the associated trail network.
