Railroad Canyon is the gateway to the Aldo Leopold Wilderness.
Railroad Canyon Campground is a great place to spend the night before beginning your trip into the Aldo Leopold Wilderness. Situated in the Black Range Mountains, the campground is a popular portal for backcountry trips. Amenities are few and the camping is lean, however, nature seekers will appreciate the myriad of trails accessible from this campground.

Directions:Railroad Canyon Campground is located east of Silver City on the north side of New Mexico Highway 152 between mile markers 27 and 28.

Small, intermittent creek running through grounds.
Closest Stores:
Mimbres has a store and gas station and several restaurants. The nearest town for all other amenities is Silver City.

There are 3 tent sites available on a first come, first served basis. Small campground with some rough surfaces. This area is easily overcrowded. The campground is prone to flash floods during seasonal heavy rains.
