Gray Copper Gulch #889
Gray Copper Trail #889 begins at the end of Forest Service Road #887 and ends at the Vernon Mine on Forest Service Road #887. This pristine and historic trail is in Gray Copper Gulch and parallels Gray Copper Creek for its entire length. The trail begins at an elevation of 10,200 feet and climbs steadily, reaching a series of switchbacks at approximately 0.7 miles. The views of Red Mountain #1 and #2 are beautiful as it continues to climb to the Vernon Mine and ends.

General Information
Directions:From Ouray, travel south on Hwy 550 to an intersection with Forest Service Road #886. Just past the Corkscrew Pass/Brown Mountain sign, turn left onto FSR #886 and continue for approximately 0.1 miles to the intersection with the Forest Service Road #884. Stay left on FSR #884 for approximately 0.3 miles. After crossing Gray Copper Creek, Forest Service Road #887 is signed and will raise steeply on your right. There is parking available here or a 4WD can continue on FSR #887 for approximately 0.6 miles to the beginning of the trail.
