Atkinson Bench #623

The Atkinson Bench Trail #623 is actually what used to be designated as the Campbell Trail, and part of the southernmost portion of the Long Canyon Trail #621. The southern trailhead is located off the Spring Creek Truck Trail. This road descends sharply off the Divide Road at a very steep grade and is likely to be impassable when wet. The trail contours at a level grade around the head of the middle fork of Atkinson Creek, crosses the point separating the middle fork of Atkinson Creek from the south fork of Atkinson Creek, then travels around the head of the south fork of Atkinson Creek onto the point that separates the south fork from Spring Creek. The trail then travels around the head of Spring Creek and contours to the point which separates the Spring Creek and Burro Creek drainages. The trail ends at FSR #668.

NORTHERN ACCESS:

The Northern Trailhead for the Atkinson Bench Trail is located directly across from the turnoff that goes to the Weimer’s Cow Camp (Club Cow Camp) off the Tongue Road. Travel south on the Divide Road for approximately 26.1 miles to its intersection with the Tongue Road. Turn right (south) onto the Tongue Road and travel approximately 0.7 miles to the intersection where the road to the Weimer’s Cow Camp forks right (north). The Atkinson Bench Trail forks left (south) off the the Tongue Road, opposite to the road that goes to the Club Cow Camp.

SOUTHERN ACCESS:

The Southern Trailhead for the Atkinson Bench Trail is located off the Spring Creek Truck Trail on a point separating the Spring Creek and Burro Creek drainages. To access this trailhead, travel approximately 28.1 miles south on the Divide Road from the Northern Forest Boundary to the Spring Creek Truck Trail, FSR 668. Turn right (southwest) onto the Spring Creek Truck Trail and travel approximately 0.7 miles to is intersection with the Atkinson Bench Southern Trailhead.
