Machin Basin #784


The Machin Basin Trail is 9.2 miles long. It begins at Forest Trail #789/Wheeler Geologic Area Boundary within Rio Grande National Forest and it travels north through La Garita Wilderness to end at Skyline Trail #465 within Gunnison National Forest. Trail is rough and can be hard to follow. Several rockslide areas should be traversed carefully. Due to the rocks, the trail is not recommended for horse travel. Machin Lake offers great fishing and the trail allows for numerous circuit routes all over the Wilderness. Excellent scenery, diverse wildlife & rugged terrain.
 
The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding, Fishing, Viewing Scenery, and Viewing Wildlife.

Directions:

This trail begins within the La Garita Wilderness. It may be accessed from Eddiesville Trailhead (area is unavailable). From the trailhead travel south on Skyline Trail #465 to it's junction with Machin Basin Trail #784.
