Stealey Mountain South #258
The Stealey Mountain South trail #258 begins at Forest Service Road #857, Cow Creek Road, and ends at an intersection with the Courthouse Trail #218. The trail ascends several steep switchback and reaches the Uncompahgre Wilderness boundary at approximately 0.4 miles. It continues through scrub oak until it levels off and enters a subalpine forest of spruce/fir. It descends into the Red Creek drainage and at approximately 3.4 miles it crosses Red Creek. The trail enters a grassy aspen meadow, it can be overgrown here so look for blazes on the aspen. It begins to ascend for approximately 0.8 miles to its intersection with the Courthouse Trail. Most of this trail is within the Uncompahgre Wilderness where Wilderness Regulations apply.

Directions:From Ridgeway:
Follow U.S. Hwy 550 south for approximately 0.04 miles to the intersection with County Road 12. Turn left onto CR 12 and continue for approximately 4 miles to the intersection with County Road 10 and Forest Service Road 857, Cow Creek Road. Follow FSR 857 for approximately 7.6 miles to the beginning of the Stealey Mountain South Trail. FSR 857 can be rough, 4WD is recommended.
