Mowe Lake Campsites

Area Status: Open

There are two primitive campsites located on the 25 acre Mowe Lake. The access road is narrow, but capable of handling moderate sized vehicles and trailers. No water is provided at this site, but there is a primitive toilet. Neither site on Mowe Lake has a good swimming area. There is an unimproved access located across from site #2. It has a sand base and is recommended for small boats and trailers only. Mowe Lake contains northern pike, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. Surveys indicate a good, healthy fishery.

Fees:	Camping fee is $8 per night per site. Federal Recreation Passes (Golden/America the Beautiful) are accepted.
Permit Info:	Camping at Mowe Lake is by reservation only. Walk ins are not allowed. These sites may be reserved for up to 14 days. Reservations are made on our national recreation reservation system. General Information

Directions:

From the Intersection of US-2 and Forest Highway 13 (about 14 miles east of Rapid River), drive north 19 miles on Highway 13 to CR 440. Turn right (east) and drive 3.5 miles to FR 2209. Turn right (southeast) on 2209 at the Big Springs North Trailhead and drive 0.4 mile to FR 8104. Turn right (west) and drive about 0.6 mile to the campsites.

Activities

Campground Camping

There are two primitive campsites located on Mowe Lake. Site #1 is located in a semi-open area bordered by hardwood trees. It is 60 ft. by 40 ft. and suitable for one family and trailers. A primitive toilet is shared with site #2. Site #2 is similar to #1 in layout, but slightly smaller in size. It is suitable for one family and trailers. A primitive toilet is shared with site #1.

Lake and Pond Fishing

Mowe Lake is 25 acres. There is an unimproved access located between sites #1 and #2. It has a sand base and is recommended for small boats and trailers only.

Nice lake to canoe or kayak.

Swimming

Neither site on Mowe Lake has a good swimming area. The swimming sites have not been checked for possible hazards, so caution should be exercised. Please remember that you swim at your own risk. Lifeguards are not present. Children should be accompanied in the water by an adult at all times.
