Patriarch Grove

Patriarch Grove is at the terminus of the Bristlecone Pine Forest Scenic Byway. It is a beautiful bristlecone pine grove which includes the world's largest bristlecone pine, the Patriarch Tree. At Patriarch Grove you'll find a picnic area, restrooms and self-guided interpretive trail. The road to the Patriarch Grove is not paved from Schulman Grove (12 miles) and can be a bit wash boardy at times: not recommended for light passenger vehicles. Please note that Patriarch Grove is at 11,000 feet so those with health issues that can be exasperated by high elevaton should use caution.

General Information

Directions: From Big Pine proceed east on Highway 168 for 12 miles until you reach the turn off for White Mtn Road/Bristlecone Pine Forest. Turn left at that signed junction and proceed 10 miles until the end of the paved road at Schulman Grove. Patriarch Grove is another 12 miles out the dirt road: not recommended for light passenger cars. After 12 miles turn right at the signed junction for Pariarch Grove then proceed one more mile until the parking lot
