The White Mountain Public Lands Information Center is a one stop shop for accessing your public lands. Pick up wilderness permits, and find out road, trail, campground, and weather conditions. This facility is your gateway to recreation and wilderness exploration.
Staffed by US Forest Service and National Park Service employees, information is available on public lands in Inyo and Mono Counties and beyond:
The Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association (ESIA) operates a bookstore at the visitor center, with a comprehensive selection of books and maps of the region, and bear resistant food containers for rent or sale. Revenue from sales of these items helps support interpretative programs.
We’re located in the heart of Bishop, CA on the west side of US 395. Look for Smokey Bear at the entrance to the parking lot.
No Overnight Parking
Hours of Operation:
May 1st – Nov 1st: Daily, 8AM – 5PM*, Closed for Lunch, 12 – 1 PM
Nov 2nd – Apr 30th: Mon – Fri, 9AM – 5PM*, Closed for Lunch, 12 – 1 PM
Closed: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day
*Last permit issued and pass sold 15 minutes prior to close.
Bear Resistant Food Container Rental:
Wilderness Permits, California Campfire Permits, Fuelwood Permits, Christmas Tree Permits, BLM Bishop Long Term Camping Permits
Water Fountain and Water Spigot. No RV filling.
Passes & Entrance Fees:
America the Beautiful Annual, Senior, Access, Military, and Every Kid in a Park Passes, and California Sno-Park Passes are sold here.
